Let’s be honest, white is the go to colour for most of our house. Sure, we could spend ages working out specific shades that compliment each other and colours that work together, but when it really comes down to it- most of us plump for good old friendly white. It can look great- widening space, highlighting furniture and even making a space seem more relaxing. But, is it possible for there to be too much of a good thing?
When all decor in a space is white, if not done correctly, it can get difficult to see the difference between objects. Not enough natural light or distressed furniture can look a bit
“hospital fresh” never mind the damage a stray child or pet could do to that perfect magazine showroom vibe you’ve got going on there. In real life with real people, too much white often just doesn’t work! If you love the whitewashed look, try throwing some pale greys, pinks or greens in there- wood also works really well with bright colours and helps to anchor and break up that endless white sea.
White is relaxing, spas splash the stuff all over and even just looking at it can make you feel more at peace with your surroundings. That’s a good thing, right? Mostly. Be careful where you’re using the colour; research shows offices and work spaces painted white are actually less productive than their colourful counterparts. This could be because colour gets us all excited and ready to work or it could just be because white is too good at relaxing us!
