If the last few months have taught us anything, it is that we spend the majority of our time in our homes, and with working from home becoming more popular, it is important to create a space that is inviting and arm, as after all, your home is your sanctuary. Incorporating those little bits of delight into your home décor is something we take for granted and often skip in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. But you'd be amazed what a few changes can do to transform your space and your state of being.
Less Is More
The ability to find delight often gets buried in excess stuff. When we open a wardrobe full of things, instead of feeling thankful that we have what we need, we feel stressed because we see a need to organise. Owning fewer material items actually makes it easier to be thankful for what we have. When we have less stuff, we somehow appreciate the stuff we do have more. Owning less causes us to be intentional about what we bring into our homes - less definitely equals the ability for more delight in life.
Create A Sacred Corner
If you have kids, you know how hard it is to keep your home clean and organised all the time. But if you really want to bring some flashes of delight into your home, you need to carve out a small space that's just for you. Even if it's your workspace. A space that belongs solely to you and serves as a home for your favorite things. Just make sure you have at least one space in your home that isn't overrun by anyone else, no matter how small.
Bring The Outdoors Inside
We all know that plants are an immediate mood-booster in any room, not to mention the myriad benefits they provide. Something that people often overlook is the joy fresh flowers can bring to your home. You don't have to partake in an expensive arrangement in order to reap the benefits of blooms in your space. Carnations and chamomile are two budget-friendly options that last for a really long time. As long as you trim the ends and give them fresh water every few days, they can last for a few weeks before you need to replace them with fresher buds.
Play To The Senses
Scent is a powerful sense that can invoke happy memories and a calm spirit. Keep your favorite candles or diffusers in the house for the ultimate whiff of delight. Play around with different diffuser combos or swap out your candles for the season. But if you find one scent that you love above the rest, don't be afraid to stick with what works. The key here is to make sure you're feeling that little flash of delight when you walk into a room.
