We've all been through it at some point in our life. Getting to sleep can be difficult, but unfortunately, you've got to sleep somewhere and you can't just snap your fingers and change your surroundings! Recently, there's been a lot of colour popping up in bedrooms. Gone are the standard days of boring white rooms! Hooray, right? Unfortunately the rise of colour in the bedroom has an unintended side effect on the quality of our sleep. We don't tend to sleep as well when there's bright red staring back at us at night, but if we want to keep up with trends, what can we do?
Dark colours are the best of both worlds, greys, blacks, deep blues and greens can suck out the light in any space and take you off to a good night sleep. Not only do dark colours absorb a lot of light and leave you to get some good shut eye, but they're also calming. Unlike that bright red we talked about, they won't be getting your brain going at 2am in the morning! Dark colours, especially on the ceiling, can remind you of the night sky- and encourage you to drift off to sleep. If you have a small bedroom and struggle to get enough light during the day to pull off the dark bedroom look, consider only painting the ceiling a dark colour. Even just one wall can do a lot to relax your brain when it's time to sleep, so don't be too worried if you can't part with all your trusty white walls just yet!
