Chances are, you may have heard of the Danish design trend, Hygge, pronounced somewhere between hue-ge and hoo-ge, no, we can’t say that either! You’ve likely not embraced it into your life and room yet. It may not be everywhere quite yet, but we’re willing to bet Hygge and in general cosiness is in our lives to stay.
Â
What is Hygge? Hygge is having the mood of cosiness and comfortable feelings of wellness and commitment. I don’t know about you but, we’re sold, and we already want that in our house! Hygge is not just a Danish design trend, it’s a way of thinking and living, think of it like the embodiment of what it means to be jolly at Christmas. In all likelihood, you’ve already experienced loads of Hygge throughout your life, but just not attributed it to that. If you’re roasting marshmallows over the fire, drinking a nice cup of hot chocolate and chatting with family, those sentimental feelings of happiness and comfort are central to what Hygge means.
Â
But how does that relate to design, or the way that we present our house or room? Simple. Those same feelings can easily be conjured by setting up a room in a particular way. Any object, design or colour that makes you feel comfortable is Hygge. Adding a bit of Hygge to a room can be as simple as a plant in the corner, a fluffy pillow on the sofa, or having a certain kind of texture to sink your feet into! The Wandsworth sofa has that perfect comfortable luxury feeling that takes us right back to warm nights around the fire, and is, therefore, Hygge decor.
