It may not have felt like winter was truly here before the cold started, but now we’re looking at freezing temperatures in the weeks ahead it’s really not avoidable. Don’t fret, the best cure for winter blues is a nice big cup of hot chocolate, snuggling up on the sofa and watching a good bit of telly! Now is the time to break out those extra sofa blankets and shawls, no longer just for decorative purposes there’s nothing better than your own little mound of warmth.
Long dark evenings can be chilling, but swapping your lighting around for the winter is a great trick to getting the most out of those awfully drawn out winter nights. If you have a fireplace now's the time to take the layers of dust off and fire it up, adding extra lamps and light sources is another great way to make a room feel brighter and happier! There’s not only the option to add more lighting, but also to replace your bulbs and get rid of fluorescents and other harsh white lights. The more yellow the light the sunnier the room, and hopefully you, will feel!
There’s nothing worse than the smell of cold, unfortunately during damp and sad weather some old buildings will smell differently as walls are more wet. Although most of the time this is unavoidable, why sit around with stiff toes waiting for spring? If this is a problem with your home why not invest in some scented candles, warming winter scents such as cinnamon and apple are great for setting the mood!
