Who doesn't love the luxurious feeling of lying in a pile of fabrics surrounded by gold trimmed metals. We certainly do! But who doesn't also love feeling comfortable and cosy in their own home. Us too! Tone down those instances where you went a little bit over the top on the gold with wood or natural rough materials. Keep the colour scheme the same to avoid a clash of styles, and be mindful of budget as you go. Going for this mix of looks is a great way to keep costs down, because it means you can work with what you've got while still adding luxury.
If, on the other hand, your attempted ritz look is looking a bit too make-do, balance it out by using rich colours, even if not on expensive furniture or pieces. Colours such as gold and red are great for this- you can even paint them on yourself! If a bold red is too much for your space, use a peach or light pink instead for the same warming effect.
Luxury is all about space, but too much space and a room can feel unwelcoming. Use furniture, fake walls and statement pieces to break up and keep apart rooms that are just too large for the look you're going for. Black can also make rooms seem smaller, not to mention it helps to get that richness on walls and backgrounds, especially when used with gold highlights. If you have the opposite problem with your home, stay away from the dark colours- and try and focus on small amounts of decor and furniture to make the room seem bigger and more glamorous.
