Welcome to Homes In The Spotlight, a new series dedicated to some of our favourite home accounts!
Gemma's home is stylish and chic, with monochrome tones and minimalistic decor. This interview might just encourage you to start re-styling your home or think about starting a home account of your own...
1. What was your inspiration behind starting a home account?
I started my Instagram as a way to hold myself accountable whist trying to lose weight, but then I started following home accounts and seeing the ideas they were doing and quickly fell in love with decorating and interiors. I'm a firm believer that you can make a house a home without spending a fortune and doing a lot of things yourself.
2. So inspiring! What interior trend are you fully embracing in your home right now?
I'm definitely moving over to the neutral side. Don't get me wrong, I love grey. But my style is definitely moving more to the softer, neutral tones.
3. We are all for the neutrals over here too, so much that we have just released a blog on how to incorporate the neutral trend edit into a home. So, how would you describe your home style in 3 words?
I would describe my style as, HOMELY, MODERN & DIY!
4. A celebrity home you'd love to visit?
I absolutely love Alex & Olivia Bowen's home, their staircase is serious home goals!
5. Agreed, that staircase is gorgeous! What is the best home purchase vs home purchase fail?
Oooh, the best I would have to say is the kitchen island from IKEA. We up-cycled our kitchen but I felt like I needed something extra as there was just an empty space in the middle. It has so much storage and I can entertain whilst cooking. That or my bed! Our bed is amazing, even though it's grey, I won't be changing it anytime soon. Worst? I don't think I have any, anything I buy I always find a new home for. My loft is the Aladdin's cave of old things I can't throw away!
6. Which room do you spend the most time in and why?
This has changed, we spent a lot of time in our conservatory as it's open plan with our kitchen and I don't know about anyone else, but I love the sound of the rain on the conservatory roof. Since doing up the living room, we've been spending a lot of time in there too. This has now been nicknamed the posh living room by my kids.
7. Nothing beats the sound of rain (so relaxing). What is your favourite way to unwind at home?
Easy. Glass of wine, bubble bath, comfy pjs and a night snuggled with Tillie our dog on the couch.
8. That sounds like the perfect way to unwind. Finally, the best home tip you've ever received to share with our followers…
Rome wasn't built in a day! The list of jobs we all have for around the house can be never ending but take one job at a time. Making your house a home is the fun bit so just enjoy the process.
