How, where and why you place your furniture does make a difference. Not only is the impression you get when you first walk through the door everything to do with where things are in a room but where furniture is can also give the impression of how much dosh you've thrown at it. Take a look at some of the celebs on our Instagram, profesh styled rooms and all of them look so well laid out. You don't need to splash the cash to get the same effects, it's all down to how you plan.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when thinking up a room is putting too much junk in there. Not much you can do layout wise when you've got so much going on you can't even focus on anything! The key to a good-looking room is spacing everything out, something called negative space is important for balancing what you see with what you don't. If you have too much to look at, you'll never be happy to just look at and enjoy the room, so there needs to be visible free space as well. A good rule of thumb is standing at a certain point in the room and looking at how much space your furniture takes up, this space should be equally and evenly matched with empty space! Doesn't mean you can overuse space though, try and aim for a half and half approach, you're not living next-door!
Whatever you do, think carefully about exactly how you're going to organise your rooms, and make sure you keep this is mind throughout the entire house- and yes that does include the often-forgotten kitchen and bathrooms!
