It might not be the season to be jolly, but it could be the season to be holly. Summer is the perfect time to stock up on plants for the rest of the year, and we're not going to let a little history of neglect and death stop us this time! Plants are the perfect way to breathe some much-needed life and love into your home, and some species can even improve the quality of your air. There are two ways you can go about planting up your home. Picking your favourite plants first, or focusing on design and then finding the right plant for the spot. If you're more red thumbed than green, picking a nice and easy plant first is the best option for you. There are 3 main things you need to make sure your plant's happy: light, water and space. Each plant will come with instructions on how often to water it and where to place it in relation to light. Keep to these instructions; even if you think it looks better somewhere else!
Sometimes picking plants first just isn't the way to go, especially if you're already a seasoned plant-parent and know exactly what you're doing this year (go you!) First, pick the best position for your plant and the type of look you want there. The easiest look to pull off is large leaf plants in mild shade, think: behind the sofa or in the corner. But with a bit of knowledge, there are lots of surprising spots around the home for your little green friends.
When decorating with plants, never use just one. Although some plants look best by themselves, matching them to another plant on the other side of the room can only make them look even better! Try to match the same type of leaves across a room, for example, if you love tropical flowering plants- stick to that look everywhere. Some surprising spots for a cheeky plant or two include the bookshelf, chair, curtains or netting, bathroom or on top of the wardrobe. Don't forget to pick the right plant for the area, as even the healthiest looking bud can quickly wilt if under the wrong level of light!
