In this day and age, most of us are smack bang in the middle of a fast paced modern lifestyle. Sometimes the home we need is a peaceful and gentle oasis to wind us down and gear us up for the next day. Asian-inspired interiors are well-known for being calm and peaceful, here's three trends that package up that beautiful balance and could help you magic up some of that same serenity in your own home.
- Balance those visuals
There's a lot to learn about balance, and it's not always an easy thing to master, in any space. But with enough time and practise, balancing decor can be as easy as forgetting your keys! Balance is the key principle that asian-inspired homes look to use, and no, it's not just about colours, or even about textures. Styles, shapes, space and materials must all be balanced together for the perfect picture of peace. - Use water
There's a reason that the sounds and sights of water are so calming. It's beautiful, smooth, simple, flowing and it carves out it's own path as it goes- it's not forceful or wild- and yes, we need some of that in our life! A small water feature can be a great addition to any room in the house, but focus on the entrance area, living room or even the garden. - Relaxing lighting
We love a good dimmer switch, but relaxing lighting goes a lot further than just being able to dim the lights. Lanterns can be just as soothing, but some of the best calm lighting involves colour. White and yellow can be blinding and we all get enough of that kind of light throughout the day. If you're feeling brave, try red or green lighting. For those on a low budget, try wrapping lampshades with coloured fabric to get the same effect.
