Picking the right colours for your living room can be hard, nevermind finding out where and how to use them! If you're a fan of the bright and the bold, but scared of making your living room just a bit *too* Jeffree Star, the most important thing you should consider is picking colours that don't clash together. If you're going to be using different colours all at once, use the same shades in the same spots throughout the room. Keep it consistent and remember to use neutrals to give your eyes a rest every now and again!
On trend now are gorgeous and bright yellows, great for banishing away cold winter vibes but not so great for matching with our normal room. If you're planning on popping some fun and vibrant yellow shelving or cushions into your room, match it throughout and use yellow highlight rugs, lamps or even chairs. If you're going for a specific bold pattern, don't mix and match several types in the same room- try and keep it similar. Tie different parts of the room together using either the same colours, style, pattern or object and if in doubt, tone it down!
Sometimes the best furniture can be expensive; often you're paying a premium for extra colour! If you want to save yourself a few pennies, buy or make your own paint and decorations and spruce up old, plain or wooden items that are often left lying around in the shed or waiting to go to the tip! If you're feeling adventurous, use masking tape to mark out lines on your walls or furniture- then paint your favourite bright colours in your own personalised pattern. The best thing about this technique is that you can repeat it in different areas of the room and tie the whole thing together. If you're renting (or worried about messing your nan's favourite dresser up), you can find peel off coloured tape at any DIY shop, which can then be cut, shaped and stuck in any pattern you desire!
