Chilly *Inside*!? We’ve Got You Covered

Chilly *Inside*!? We’ve Got You Covered

Huff, will winter never end? We’re tired of reaching for the thermostat, but although that may be the easiest solution, windows and doors may be a surprisingly big part of the problem. First off, check for drafts. Older houses often have big gaps under the door, but simply enough, draft stoppers (really thick strips of fabric that keep all the warmth and money in) can be found in most large or online shops. If your wallet is too far gone for even amazon to help you, get your thickest old fabric and get to work sewing! You don’t even need thick fabrics for an effective heat block, fill thin fabrics with densely packed materials such as rice, for a fun, creative DIY project even the kids can get involved in! Not only can these funky little money protectors be used on main doors, but they also work on doors between rooms, and even windows!

The coldest spot in the house is often just in front of the window, invest in some strong insulated curtains or blinds- or, reinforce your own, use thick fabrics and light blocking materials for best results. There’s lots of nifty cold fighting products that do the job well too; cellular shades work by insulating and stopping heat from escaping one direction while still letting the full glory of the sun in the other way. Insulation film is also available to buy online, just slap it on and dry with a hairdryer to stop the cold in its tracks.
