Using lines and structure to guide the eyes

Using lines and structure to guide the eyes

Ever wondered what makes the difference between a well-designed room and a great designed room? Well, one of the most important factors of design and art is using tricks to direct the eyes to the right spot; using different shapes and lines that the eye can follow and end up at the most important point of the room. This pretty and pleasing trick is the key element of all good design, and all pro designers have this in the forefront of their mind when doing any project.

You might be forgiven for thinking that in a normal home like yours it's not possible to use such a fancy approach without breaking the bank on expensive custom decoration; but you would be wrong! It's easy to create forms and structure simply using 2 or more shapes or lines in partnership. Shapes and lines have a loving marriage! As long as your forms or lines look nice and pleasing they work as frames for details whilst being details themselves. If you just take a moment to look at the room around you and notice how the edges of shapes and furniture, details on the wall, all combine in the overall picture of the room to provide visual guides for a home space. Lines can work to add both difference and harmony and while fixing a place up you should always consider when you put a piece, how it looks, what lines it has and how those lines interact with the other things in the room!
