What's a room without something to look at? Boring. We all have that one item that just screams character, we love it and we spent ages hunting for it. But how do you make sure it's getting the right amount of attention? If you have something you truly love you don't want to hide it or have it blend in. Unleash its full potential and display it fully. Don't make the mistake of hiding it behind anything, put it front and centre and revel in unique antique vibes, make sure to keep everything else muted so that you can really notice it in a room. Going back to basics is another way to really make sure a piece shines, colours are a massive part of any room and if you want something to work you've got to make sure it fits perfectly with other colours. You don't necessarily need to be using the same tones, nothing matchy-matchy, but colours that love each other, or are picking up different shades in a room, are a must when you have a focal piece which draws the eye, too bright or gaudy and it'll stick out like a sore thumb, too dim and it'll look out of place and unneeded. Remember to look at the big picture, take a step back and look over a room, think about how a certain piece looks compared to everything else and use a larger frame of reference to move something into the perfect position in a space. Last and not least, don't be afraid to mess around and get your own personal style nailed down. At the end of the day it's your style and your piece so if you like something, even if it's a little quirky, sometimes you've just got to go with it!
