Selling up and moving away is stressful enough, but sometimes there’s the added stress of making your home appeal to the right people. First impressions are worth a lot, so focus on the front area of the house especially, and make sure to remove any and all clutter. The easier it is for someone to imagine moving their furniture into a place, the more likely they’ll want to buy it. So, don’t go crazy with the decorations, keep it clean and minimal and try to show off the good structures of the house.
Pay special attention to the floor, as this is something that may be difficult for a new owner to change. It’s also a good indication of how well looked after a place is, so make sure to take care of it in the future. Look out for lighting, don’t obstruct any natural light and make sure your home has enough artificial light for any area of the house, even if you don’t use it. Not having enough lighting is one of the first things that pops out when you walk through a poorly lit area and while it may help hide your floor, it won’t do you any favours in the long run!
It’s not all about looks, air out the house thoroughly to get rid of any lingering smells. On top of this, make sure there’s no smell of mould or mildew and if there is, find the source! It’s a good idea to use an air freshener or light house perfume, but don’t go too overboard, otherwise a potential buyer could think you’re hiding bad smells. Neutral or light floral scents can be good, but keep in mind some scents may be too personal to you and could actually turn some potential buyers off.
