Ultimately, this will depend on the size and shape of the room. And of course, it comes down to personal preference. You do you, and all that. But we have three general points of advice:
- Try to orientate both sofas towards the room’s most prominent feature. For most, that’ll be the TV (let’s face it, who could live without one?), but it could also be the fireplace or a window.
- Don’t push your sofas against the wall, especially if your lounge is on the small side. This only creates an awkward space in the middle of the room and can actually highlight its modest dimensions. Instead, pull them towards the centre to create a more open, spacious feel.
- Arrange them for convo (if that’s your thing). Whether you like to entertain or just want to encourage a bit of family chatter, it’s worth positioning the pieces of your sofa set together. Not necessarily opposite each other – just close enough for you to talk, without raising your voice.
