As the seasons shift and brighter days roll in, Sofa Club is encouraging the nation to rethink spring cleaning. It starts
with the most loved (and most overlooked) piece in the home: the sofa.
From movie nights to morning coffees, our sofas are at the centre of everyday living, yet they quietly collect dust,
crumbs, allergens, and daily build-up. This April, Sofa Club introduces the “Sofa Reset”. A simple, elevated approach to refreshing your home for spring.
What's Really Living in Your Sofa?
According to home hygiene research*, your
sofa could be hiding more than just loose change—making spring cleaning the
perfect time to tackle what’s built up over winter. Studies suggest the average
sofa can harbour bacteria and microbes including E. coli, Staphylococcus, and
even mould spores if not regularly cleaned.
Insights also reveal that the biggest hidden hiding places for dirt in a sofa are often the hardest to reach, including:
·
Underneath and behind the sofa, where dust and debris collect undisturbed
·
Deep crevices between seat cushions, trapping crumbs and pet hair
·
Behind back cushions, where body oils and residue build up
·
Under seat cushions on the sofa frame, often hiding dust and food particles
·
High-contact areas like armrests and headrests
·
Inside seams and stitching, where fine dust settles over time
These overlooked spots quietly accumulate dirt, body oils, skin cells, and dust mites, making them key focus areas for an effective spring reset.
Why Your Sofa Should Be Your Starting Point
·
It holds more than you think: dust, pet hair, allergens, and everyday debris build up over time—especially deep within seams and cushions
·
It impacts your whole space: a clean sofa instantly lifts the look and feel of your room
·
It’s the focal point: refreshing it sets the tone for the rest of your home
The Sofa Reset Method
Strip It Back: Remove all cushions, throws, and accessories to create a blank canvas.
This exposes hidden areas like the sofa base, back panels, and deep crevices where dirt builds up over time.
Vacuum Thoroughly (Top to Bottom): Use an upholstery and crevice attachment to clean every part of the sofa. Focus on deep gaps between cushions, seams, and stitching. Lift cushions to vacuum underneath—and don’t forget behind and beneath the sofa, one of the biggest hotspots for dust and debris.
Target Hidden Build-Up Zones: Pay close attention to often-missed areas like behind back cushions,
under seat cushions on the frame, and along edges where crumbs and dust settle.
Refresh High-Contact Areas: Armrests and headrests collect the most body oils, skincare, and daily
residue. Clean gently using fabric-safe solutions to lift marks and prevent
discolouration.
Know Your Fabric: Always check care labels before using cleaning products to ensure
materials are treated correctly.
Tackle Marks Early: Blot stains gently rather than rubbing to avoid pushing dirt deeper
into fibres.
Deep Clean Where Needed: For a true reset, steam cleaning is one of the most effective ways to
lift embedded dirt, kill bacteria, and refresh fibres deep within upholstery.
Refresh and Deodorise: Sprinkle baking soda across the sofa (including under cushions), leave
it to sit, then vacuum to neutralise odours and revive fabrics.
Wash Soft Furnishings Weekly: Cushion covers, throws, and blankets should be cleaned regularly as
they absorb sweat, skin particles, and odours quickly.
Reset Your Styling for Spring: Once clean, rebuild your sofa with lighter layers. Remove heavy winter
textures like wool throws and dark tones, and introduce soft neutrals, spring
greens, and baby blue accents to instantly brighten your space.
Spring Styling Trends to Pair with Your Reset
This season’s interior direction is all about effortless freshness. Sofa Club highlights simple ways to elevate your space:
·
Soft neutrals and warm, calming tones
·
Layered textures like linen, cotton, and boucle
·
Subtle statement accessories for a refreshed look

Seasonal colour accents for an uplifting spring feel
A Simple Reset That Transforms Your Space

minimal effort.
Because this season, it’s not just about cleaning—it’s about creating a space that feels fresh, comfortable, and ready
to enjoy.
